Unexpected Gem in Greensboro

Our family was on our way to Kiawah island for a summer trip, but alas my body cannot manage an 8 hour drive anymore. Age and use necessitated a midpoint, and we stopped at the Proximity Hotel in Greensboro. We stayed here once before--but this trip was extra special. First, excellent service from the start, the rooms were already defeathered, so after unpacking we went for a swim.
The swimming pool felt like it was a from another time. I think that's the real charm of the whole place--it's out of place. It's the first US hotel to get a platinum LEED cert, and they recently got a Michelin key nod. Back to the pool--the fence was covered completely in vines and greenery, it felt like a love letter to Kudzu. It was shaded, quiet, and lovely.

Additionally, they had huge rooms--everything felt like Americana grandeur, even our view was lush. Our family was reticent to leave, this was supposed to be a stopover on the way to the beach, but we felt like we wanted to stay for a few days. Hats and hairpieces off to the folks at the Proximity, I can't wait to be back in North Carolina!
